MECHANICAL LEGS
What are some of the cash cows that you can think of? OK, so there is Justin Bieber if you are talking about the current climate and timeline, but if you are talking about real staying power, surely very few can come close to the Star Wars franchise. Have you ever wondered just how many kinds of tie-ins with fast food restaurants, toy companies, T-shirt companies and such have happened in the past because of the Star Wars association? Well, the Darth Maul with Mechanical Legs is yet another pre-order that might just satiate your hunger for more Star Wars stuff, especially if you’re a serious collector with deep pockets.
This is an imagined version of Darth Maul – after all, in Episode I, he did show real life legs, so obviously this is a situation that is less than ideal, as he won’t be that powerful Force-wise anymore (although he might look more menacing). Hey, don’t get me wrong here, as even Darth Vader became less powerful after he loss some limbs to the butcher Obi Wan Kenobi – come to think of it, it was at Obi Wan’s hand that Darth Maul met his apparent end in the movies, too. We are looking at a $302.99 “investment” here…
The Darth Maul with Mechanical Legs – Premium Format Figure captures every detail of the vengeful former Sith apprentice as he hunts Obi-Wan Kenobi in “Old Wounds,” part of the STAR WARS: VISIONARIES graphic story collection. Each piece is individually painted and finished with its own unique quality and detail, the trademark of a handcrafted Sideshow Collectibles product. Dressed in a fabric costume and complete with detailed accessories, the Darth Maul with Mechanical Legs – Premium Format Figure is the perfect addition to any Star Wars collection.
WOODEN BULBS!?
Love being different from the rest of the crowd? You won’t go wrong with the Wooden Bulb then, as this unique piece of lighting for your humble abode will feature laser-cut wood that ends up throwing some rather dazzling shadows around your walls whenever they are lit up. This is the brainchild of Barend Hemmes, a South-African born, UK designer, where it intends not only to dazzle you but your guests as well whenever they drop by for the first time. Some might think of it as eerie, but others will definitely find it to create quite the electric buzz
BANDAGE?
Modern bandages are a dull shade of tan, although kids luck out with colorful cartoon-themes on theirs. But bandages that can talk?
Well, not talk exactly. A new material developed by researchers in Melbourne, Australia will change color in relation to the temperature of whatever’s underneath it. When woven into a so called “smart” bandage, this innovative material will help indicate the presence of infection more quickly than ever before, as well as identifying other healing issues from lowered temperatures.
Health care professionals will be able to quickly determine the health of a wound by comparing the color of the fibers with a calibrated chart. This new method would help to dramatically reduce healthcare costs in Australia (and elsewhere) and lead to more rapid and effective treatment of chronic wounds.
The research team plans to turn the fabric into bandages within six months, then work with the industry to test its effectiveness. If it lives up to its promise, this new material could make a BIG difference.
JUST LIKE ALLIENS
Let me say up front that genetically modified foods of any kind aren’t a good idea. But this story goes beyond a mere eyebrow raising.
Scientists in China have successfully created a herd of transgenic cows – read genetically modified – that are now able to produce human breast milk. Human breast milk genes were inserted into cloned cow embryos, which were then implanted into surrogate cows.
The scientists involved in the study apparently aren’t concerned about any potential risks to humans from this macabre science experiment. The milk is currently undergoing safety tests but with government permission it will be sold to consumers as a more nutritious dairy drink than cow’s milk. I wonder if it will have an special labeling to warn consumers where the milk came from?

TECNOLOGY TO ATTRACT
When it comes to attracting the opposite sex, it really helps if you smell good. After all, if the person has to plug their nose just to be in your presence, there’s a good chance that they aren’t going to want to cuddle up next to you. Obviously bathing regularly is a must, but sometimes shampoo and soap don’t quite give off the scent you want. For those times, you need something that only a smooth-talking, mustachioed gambler cam provide. That’s right, I’m talking about Lando Calrissian.
Over at the Star Wars Shop, you can procure a limited edition bottle of Eau Lando Cologne. This caped bottle contains the same fragrance that we can only assume was worn by the former administrator of Cloud City. What exactly was that scent? Apparently it was Mandarin warmed with incense and lotus flower, exotic woods, dark violet and sensuous musk. One bottle can be yours for just $30. Just remember, no matter how much smooth talking you do, Han still gets the girl.
EVER CAMPED?
Have you ever thought about using fire to charge your phone? I’d be willing to bet that you hadn’t. This Hitochaja HC-5 is an interesting pot that is able to do that very thing. Just set it over an open fire with some water in it, and as it boils, the pan will convert excess heat into a five volt DC, 2 watt stream of power. To give you an idea, this is enough juice to fully power an iPhone in roughly 3-5 hours. While handy on a long trip, I’m not quite sure that I’d be willing to pay $285 for one.

YOUNG? THIK BIG THEN
For a little longer now many of parental and political leaders have been urging us the youths to be vibrant on the issues of leadership and innovations, but ussualy i have a a bone to crack with them. Recently a college student constructed a robotic arm;something that is very expensive to make expecially here in Africa. The machine would ensure that expenditure is reduced in terms of labour, time cost among other factors in building and packanging fields. But to my astonishment the minister in charge promised the young man that his tecnology will come in use in the next ten years. I never wondered since one day National association of youths of a certain country came up and declared war against all adults for a period of ten years; T o them they were immune to aging. lets be real and starting other youngsters.
